Rehabilitation Medicine Physician Dr Paul du Toit is available for outpatient clinic appointments
Eden Private Hospital proudly continues to work with Rehabilitation Medicine Physician, Dr Paul du Toit (MBBS, BSc(Physio), Dip MT, PG Dip MSM, FAFRM) and is pleased to welcome Paul as part of the Rehabilitation Specialists team.
Dr du Toit completed a post graduate diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine at Otago University in New Zealand and became a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine (FAFRM) in 2018.
Dr du Toit is available for outpatient clinic appointments and his scope of practice includes:
· General Rehabilitation – Orthopaedics, Neurological, Cardiac, Respiratory and rehabilitation of the deconditioned patient.
o Dr du Toit is available for patients with Parkinson’s disease as the needs of these patients differ from the general population. Paul also supports Eden’s PD Warrior exercise program and LSVT for patients with Parkinson’s disease
· Pain Management – Dr du Toit believes that opioids do not have a significant role in the management of chronic pain. He prefers an evidence based approach which incorporates non-pharmacological modalities including a graded exercise programme and psychological based intervention such as cognitive behavioural therapy. His aim is to always wean from opioids and to provide patients with the skills and confidence to manage their pain while living a fulfilling life.
· Musculoskeletal Medicine – Dr du Toit has a special interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine, having come from a background as a Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and having completed the post graduate diploma in Musculoskeletal Medicine at Otago University in New Zealand.
o Paul’s provides management of non-surgical back and neck pain and the management of the dysfunctional sacro-iliac joint. He believes that a thorough assessment is paramount and early management is the key to success. Paul uses a combination of manual therapy including manipulation, prolotherapy, trigger point and perineural injections.
Dr du Toit's approach works closely with Eden Private's extensive allied health team to provide holistic interdisciplinary approach.
